Godly Character {Moments with God}

{Praying} Father, help me to choose wisely those I connect myself to. May I choose those who walk in love, righteousness, and humility. May they be people of grace and compassion. And may I reflect that godly character as well.

{Praying and declaring} Help me to resist all wickedness and not be drawn in by greed. Help me resist being so focused on myself and my own interests that I miss the opportunity to love and bless others. Help guard my tongue – keep me from foolish chatter. Let my words speak life and may they reflect the condition of my heart (and may it be beautiful). Help me to accurately reflect You and bring You glory.

Psalm 28:3 (ESV) Do not drag me off with the wicked, with the workers of evil, who speak peace with their neighbors while evil is in their hearts.

I Yield {Moments with God}

{Sharing my heart with God} Father, I yield to you. All that I have and all that I am, I surrender to You for Your good purpose. I trust Your plans – even when I don’t understand – because I know You. I know Your character. I know I am safe with You. So have Your way. I offer myself as a living sacrifice. Such as I am, I give myself to You. Have Your way. Be magnified. Be glorified. I choose You. Be exalted in heaven and on earth.

{My prayer} May I choose what is holy. May I choose what is good. May I be a worthy vessel. Father, I delight in You, so have Your way.

Romans 12:1 (TPT) Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship.

Hopelessly Devoted to You {Moments with God}

{I laugh to myself as I repurpose the name of an old song as a loving refrain to God} Hopelessly devoted to You… hopelessly devoted to You. I’m hopelessly devoted to You.

{After pausing to look up the literal meaning to hopeless and finding one of Merriam-Webster’s definitions was indeed accurate with “not susceptible to remedy or cure.”} So true, Father. Nothing can cause my heart towards you to change. In hardships, I draw nearer. In prosperous times, I praise louder. In confusion, I cling tighter. My certainty is steadfast in both that You are real, and that You are a rewarder of those who seek you wholeheartedly. So yes, without question I am happily and wholeheartedly hopelessly devoted to You. May my life be a testament to Your goodness and may it bring You glory.

Hebrews 11:6 (TPT) And without faith living within us it would be impossible to please God. For we come to God in faith knowing that he is real and that he rewards the faith of those who give all their passion and strength into seeking him.

Joyful Surrender {Moments with God}

{smiling to myself as I share my heart with God} Here I am, Lord. Flawed, but wholehearted. Broken, but unashamed. For better or worse, I am Yours. Yours to move through. Yours to provide for. Yours to love. Yours to enjoy. And likely also Yours to get frustrated with in my moments of weakness. But for better or worse, I joyfully surrender all I am and all I have to You. Because You are worthy and faithful, I will ever choose You. Thank You, for being worthy, and thank You for being safe. I’m so grateful to have you to cling to – my true north, my cornerstone, my rock, my foundation – You are so good, faithful God. So yes, I joyfully surrender to You.

Romans 12:1 (AMP) Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship.

My Everything {Moments with God}

{Reminding myself} When I am weary, You renew my strength. And when I am tired, You give me rest. And when I am sad, You give me joy. And when I am lonely, You give me peace. In every moment and every season, You have what I need. So I will look to You at all times and hold fast to Your hand, for whatever need I’ll ever have – I know You have a plan. I’ll rest in You – in the shadow of Your wings, for You, my God, are my everything.

Matthew 11:28 (NLT) Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

Psalm 57:1 (NLT) Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until the danger passes by.

Steadfast and Faithful {Moments with God}

{With a heart full of gratitude} God, I don’t know what I would do without You, and am grateful I will never have to learn. You are steadfast and faithful, my rock and my foundation. You’re the touchstone I can always rely on, so I know that no matter what comes, I can turn and cling to You. I can seek You for wisdom, and ask Your Spirit for truth. I know You’ll always lead me, and so I yield to You. I need never fear uncertain times, for You’re never caught unaware. So I can trust in You faithfully, and leave myself in Your care. You comfort and console me when times of trial come, and You bolster and You strengthen me, so I can forever keep moving on. I’m so grateful that You love me, and that You’ve chosen me. I’m blessed to be Your beloved, and in that I find my identity.

Psalm 18:2 (TPT) You’re as real to me as bedrock beneath my feet, like a castle on a cliff, my forever firm fortress, my mountain of hiding, my pathway of escape, my tower of rescue where none can reach me. My secret strength and shield around me, you are salvation’s ray of brightness shining on the hillside, always the champion of my cause.

You are My Defender {Moments with God}

{I declare in my heart} When my heart is wounded, and when I’m in despair, I will fix my eyes upon You and hold fast to Your hand of grace. And when I stand accused, and when my integrity is questioned, I will trust my honor and reputation in Your very capable hands. For I know that I can trust You, and that I’m safe within Your arms. I know there’s been times You’ve been the one accused, and so You know just how I feel. So I will choose to rest in Your embrace, no matter what comes my way. For You are my defender, and so in You will I wait.

Psalm 59:1 (NET) Deliver me from my enemies, my God! Protect me from those who attack me!

Psalm 18:1 (GNT) How I love you, Lord! You are my defender.

Jehovah Jireh (the Lord our Provider) {Moments with God}

{Reminding myself}  In the moment I am afraid, I remind myself of who You are. Jehovah Jireh is Your name – I know my Lord provides. It’s in Your very nature to see all that I need – long before I am even aware, and in every situation You are faithful to supply. In good times and in hard times, You’ve never let me down. Though Your solution may be creative, may come at what I consider “the last moment,” and may not look at all as I expected – You comes through, without fail. What needs to change is my trust in You, because worry is simply wasted effort.

{My prayer} Help me, Father, to rest more fully in Your arms. To know You always have me, and will never let me down. Help me to wait with trust-filled joy as I yield to Your timing, for I know that Your faithfulness exceeds my comprehension, and Your love for me is greater than I could begin to understand.

Genesis 22:14 (NLT) Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the LORD will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”

Your Vision {Moments with God}

Psalm 139:14 (VOICE) I will offer You my grateful heart, for I am Your unique creation, filled with wonder and awe. You have approached even the smallest details with excellence; Your works are wonderful; I carry this knowledge deep within my soul.

{from a heart filled with gratitude} Father, I am overwhelmed by the awesomeness of Your creation. I see it everywhere around me in glorious majesty. To think I’m part of that creation is incredibly humbling. To think You knit together my frame and thought, “Yes! The world needed one of these beauties!” is beyond my comprehension. And yet I can recognize that same wonder for those around me. I look at my loved ones and think how incredibly grateful I am that they are here on earth, and that I have the blessing of them in my life. And yet too often I struggle to believe they feel the same way about me.

{praying} Father, help me to see me as you see me and how all those who love me see me. And even as I pray that I ask that my ability to love myself not be rooted in others’ thoughts about me – for that can be fickle, but rather let my identity – my view of who I am – be solely based on how you see me. For my own vision of myself is flawed. Only Your vision is perfect, so help me to catch Your vision of who I am, and help me to hold to it steadfastly so I might align with it. I choose to release the grudges I hold against myself and step into the love You have reflected towards me because that is truth, and I receive your truth in all areas. Thank You, Father, for your patience with me. Help me to reflect that patience to myself. Continue reading “Your Vision {Moments with God}”

Through Your Eyes {Moments with God}

Psalm 139:6 (VOICE) It is the most amazing feeling to know how deeply You know me, inside and out; the realization of it is so great that I cannot comprehend it.

{Speaking to God in my heart} Father, You amaze me. The level of detail You’re mindful of in my heart and life is truly mind boggling. You understand my heart motivations even in the moments I can’t (or won’t) see them. And like the loving Father You are, You find a way to bring the things to light that I need to know. And You do it without shaming me. You do it without making me feel like I’m inherently flawed. In fact, just the opposite! As I see myself in the reflection of Your eyes – the way You treat me and the way You love me – I see someone worth being kind to. I see someone worth being patient with. I see someone who is not disposable, but who is worth tending to and healing. You don’t just get rid of me when I’m feeling broken or struggling to understand something – even when it’s the bajillionth time I’m making the same mistake, you correct me just as lovingly as if it were the first. When I see myself through Your eyes, I see someone cherished and prized. And when You treat me as You do, I feel encouraged to do the same. Thank you for the gift of seeing myself as You see me. May I never lose sight of that vision, but if I do – thank you in advance for patiently helping me find it again. Continue reading “Through Your Eyes {Moments with God}”
